Values & Mission Statement

Our Values

We believe that supporting each other and living in the love and flow of life is the best way to live. Our goal is to foster a deeper sense of community among women in our area by offering our publication, website, and friendship.

Womyncentric is woman-owned, woman-run monthly publication based in beautiful Corvallis, Oregon. We desire to support the alternative Northwest culture of women in our area, as well as businesses owned by women. In addition, we aspire to create fulfilling jobs for women through our publication.

Our website is hosted with a wind-powered company based in Portland Oregon (Canvas Dreams) that is half woman-owned. We are also entirely woman-staffed.

Our publication is full-colour, giving women the opportunity to have their ads be as beautiful as they were designed to be. We offer ad design services, as well as grants (on an as-available basis) for new and struggling woman-owned businesses who could benefit from advertising with us.

We have a strong commitment to doing business in as green a manner as possible. To that end, we telecommute as much as we can, use wind-powered hosting, and are looking into sources of good-quality recycled paper to print our magazine with.

Womyncentric also believes in supporting women in our community as much as possible. One of the ways we accomplish that is by offering scholarships for woman-owned businesses who are in need of ad space but do not find it easy to afford.

Additionally, we offer some ad space for trade on a limited, first-come, first-approved basis. Our goal for this publication is to foster a sense of community within the circle of women in our area, and to bring business to our area by distributing to Newport, Yachats, Albany and surrounding areas. We also support woman-owned businesses in the surround communities by providing ad space to them and covering their events, sales, and other goings-on.

If you would like to write, submit photos, be part of our distribution team or otherwise be involved with Womyncentric Magazine, please email us at womyncentric@gmail.com. We look forward to speaking with you!

Mission Statement

The mission of Womyncentric is to produce an alternative women’s publication that is distributed on a monthly basis to every place a woman might be in the areas of Corvallis, Newport, Salem and Eugene. We will begin distribution in the Corvallis and Newport areas, and then expand to be in Eugene and Salem areas by the end of 2012. We talk about things most other women’s publications don’t and we do it in a fun yet respectful way. We inform and educate women about woman-owned businesses and entertainment as well as events and anything else that adds to the identity and pride of the community of alternative women in Oregon.

We strive to inform and be a part of the story of women in Corvallis, Newport, and eventually throughout the Northwest. Through supporting women and woman-owned businesses, we hope to make a difference in the quality of life for everyone who reads our publication and attends our events, whichever gender they identify with. Womyncentric is dedicated to the belief that a strong women’s publication is essential to a vibrant, rich community of women. We endeavour to support women-centric music, food, entertainment, venues, restaurants, and all other woman-owned businesses through the Womyncentric publication and this website.

What would your reaction be to a website that proclaimed: “Maancentric is male-owned, male-run monthly publication based in beautiful Corvallis, Oregon. We desire to support the culture of men in our area, as well as businesses owned by men. In addition, we aspire to create fulfilling jobs for men through our publication.”?
Or you could substitute in ‘whites’ as another experiment.
Doesn’t sound so appealing does it? Your site sounds exclusionist to me. Just another attempt to push the pendulum of sexism even further in the direction of anti-male sentiment.

Your comment is one of the reasons we exist. Comparing women’s issue to ‘white people’s issues’ is misleading and off-topic. The facts are that women are seriously under-represented in the media, and we want to change that. We are anything but anti-male. In fact, the men in our lives have been nothing but supportive and loving throughout this whole endeavour, even helping with fund raisers, distribution, etc. My response to a magazine named ‘Mancentric’ would be positive, if they were supporting a healthy culture of men.
