Single Person of the Month

Meet Simon Tatom, an Admin Specialist for the City of Corvallis Public Works Department. He is an easy going Oregon native with a big heart and witty personality. Standing at an impressive 6ft, this tall dark eyed sweetheart loves to help anyone and everyone. Even if it means driving in the middle of the night to help a friend whose car broke down. And mind you, not only did he drive in the middle of the night; he waited for the tow truck, followed behind it all the way across town, and then drove his distressed friend back home. What an amazing guy!

Simon grew up in the small town of Canby, Oregon between Portland and Salem. He lept into theater when he was in high school, taking roles in such productions as, “You Can’t Take it With You” and “Hello, Dolly.” His love of theater carried over into Western Oregon University, where he majored in Humanities and minored in Theater. It was at WOU where he met his ex wife. They were married for six years before amiably breaking up, though they are still friends.
He realized his love for writing and applied for the Creative Writing Graduate Program, but was not accepted. Instead, he opted to go for an Interdisciplinary Degree in English Literature, Composition, and Philosophy. While getting his Master’s, he began working as a tutor in the Writing Center where he discovered he preferred helping writers. He became a freelance editor and is a subcontractor for a woman in Vancouver.

Simon is not only an Admin Specialist for the City of Corvallis Public Works Department and freelance editor; he is also a non-skating official for Sick Town Derby Dames where you can find him under the derby name HanNSOlo.

Besides being well versed in several activities, Simon is also an avid geek. His first crush was Princess Leia, who he considered to be a strong, intelligent, feisty, beautiful woman. He grew up with Star Wars and Star Trek and even shows off the Federation symbol on the window of his car. In college he discovered Lord of the Rings and has been in love since.

So if you are looking for a geeky sweetheart who loves the arts, try meeting Simon. He is guaranteed to sweep you off your feet.
